It’s been twelve days since my family and I relocated to Austin, TX.
We made the move without any concrete promises of how it would all work out. The only thing we knew for sure is that we belong here. We felt that God was willing us to go, even if that meant we had no prospects upon arrival. My friend and I drove 28 hours straight from Modesto to Austin, while my wife drove our two little ones over the span of three days. We as a family made the trek as quickly as possible in order to get settled in time for our third child’s arrival. Upon leaving California, I had no job waiting for me in Texas and our home was still sitting on the market with no offer insight. This was truly a leap of faith and a blind step into our future.
In the Old Testament, God provided the Israelites with a strange flaky bread called manna while they wandered through the wilderness (Exodus 16). It was enough for a day to fill their bellies. It was very perishable, and just enough nourishment (probably similar to Taco Bell).
Am I saying we are living here in tents, eating miracle bread that God is providing from heaven? Not quite, and we surprisingly have not had Taco Bell yet. But every day brings another opportunity to trust God as we grow closer and closer to a greater peace and promise. The process has not been easy, as we are in the middle of the unknown, but we know Who is with us.
The moment my wife arrived in ATX, we received the phone call that an offer was placed on our home. Manna. At the end of our first week, I had already been through 12 job interviews. Manna. I accepted a job that would meet our most basic needs and still allow me to pursue a ministry position in the area. Manna.
The journey is far from over. The hustle continues as I better myself, take care of my family, and find what God has waiting for us.
I will tell you what I am telling myself. “You are not alone and you will get through this.”
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
