Faster, Together, & Tougher

I sit in a rented event chair at a company’s sales kick-off event at the Hilton in downtown ATX. The room is full of a global team of individuals.

The opening remarks highlight the vision of this SKO is faster, tougher, and together.

The -er at the end of an adjective makes it comparative. You’re thinking about subject X to subject Y. Our natural inclination is to compare ourselves to a peer or a seasoned professional. We do this with our relationships, parenting styles, hobbies, and careers. We look to the left, right, and ahead of us to see if we’re pleased with where we are.

Theodore Roosevelt is credited with saying, “comparison is the thief of joy.” You sap your energy to invent and be inspired because you seek to emulate another person or product. For the most part, we fall short of someone else’s path, becoming discouraged and even paralyzed to try. In 2023, let’s shift our perspective from comparing to others and instead apply the comparative to ourselves.

  • In 2022, Anthony was fast. In 2023, Anthony will be faster.
  • In 2022, Anthony was tough. In 2023, Anthony will be tougher.
  • In 2022, Anthony was together. In 2023, Anthony will be (more) together-er.

Here, you can own your growth and add to the company’s vision because you align yourself with its’ path. Own what you can own, and that is personal growth. Improve personally; the effects will be seen in your work and home.

You should write down those three words as headings in three columns. Start to dream about how YOU can be faster, tougher, and together-er in 2023.

So, let’s -er 2023!
