Bandaids Are Not Always The Answer

Welcome to another episode of, “Life Lessons from Anthony’s Mistakes.”

My wife took my car to work a month ago, and the rear passenger tire blew on 45. Texas Roadside Assistance was near and started to help her put on the spare. I quickly switched vehicles and got two new tires at my local tire shop. I knew the two other tires were older, but I wanted to squeeze every bit of use out of them before putting more money into a car I wanted to let go of anyway.

Here is a picture of me from five days ago. In one week, I got my third low tire pressure warning from one of the older tires I held onto. The exact tire would not hold air for more than 2-3 days at a time, but that did not stop me from visiting the air machines at H-E-B gas stations. I used temporary mends for what required a more permanent fix. All ended well. I returned to the same local tire shop last Friday and now have four fully operational tires on my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. I did not want to spend the money, but I did value the safety of my family and others on the road.

Now, how does this apply to you?

Are you putting a bandaid on something that requires surgery? Are you distracting yourself with a tiny workaround rather than focusing your time on fixing the real issue?

The fix might cost more time or money, but it will be worth it in the end. Take some time this week to learn from my mistakes.
